Find Your 'Me-Time'
Looking to have a little oasis of calm?
Why not create yourself a meditation nook ...
First of all lets get this straight - "Me-Time" is not selfish...
Lot's of people learn early on that their worth comes from being helpful, productive, or needed in some way.
As a result of this, rest can often trigger feelings of guilt! But that guilt doesn't mean you're doing something wrong, it just means you're changing old patterns .... and yes, I'm looking at you people-pleasers as I'm saying this!
Taking care of yourself does not mean you don't care about other people, it means that you're looking after your mental and emotional health.
Think of it like your phone battery - if you never recharge it, it doesn't work properly.
You are the same! Me-time is how you recharge.
And it's not about escaping life, it's about giving yourself to breathe.
Taking time for yourself is so not selfish, it's self-respect.
Looking after yourself like this helps you cope better, make healthier choices, and feel more like you.
♡ Prioritising You!
✧ Creating a meditation corner just for you is a great way to establish a dedicated peaceful space for your relaxation and mindfulness practice.
Here are some ways to help you set up your own meditation corner, bringing the senses:
Step 1. Choose the Location
-
A Quiet Space: Find a secluded area in your home (or your garden - dependent on the weather) ... away from noise and distractions.
-
Natural Light: If possible, select a spot with natural light for a calming effect.
-
Comfort: Look for a place where you feel comfortable and at ease.
Step 2. Select a Surface
-
Flooring: Use a soft mat or cushion on the floor. A meditation cushion or a yoga mat can enhance comfort.
-
Chair: If sitting on the floor is uncomfortable, consider using a comfortable chair with good back support.
Step 3. Create a Relaxing Atmosphere
-
Decor: Add plants, artwork, or calming decorations that inspire peace.
-
Your Colour Scheme: Opt for soothing colours like soft blues, greens, or neutral tones.
-
If Lighting is needed: Use soft lighting like lamps, candles, or fairy lights to create a serene ambiance.
Step 4. Add Some Essential Accessories
-
Cushions and Blankets: Include soft cushions and a cozy blanket to enhance comfort.
-
Altar or Shelves: Set up a small altar with meaningful items like crystals, photos, or spiritual symbols.
-
Incense or Essential Oils: Use calming scents like lavender or sandalwood to promote relaxation. Cleanse the space with sage or Palo Santo.
Step 5. Incorporate Sound
-
Music: Have soft instrumental, an indoor fountain, white noise or nature sounds playing in the background if it helps you relax.
-
Guided Meditations: Keep a speaker or headphones handy for guided meditation sessions.
Step 6. Set a Schedule
-
Dedicate specific times for meditation to establish a routine.
-
Consistency can help deepen your practice but don't put pressure on yourself if you miss a session or it will defeat the object.
Step 7. Personalise Your Space
-
Make your meditation corner personal.
-
Add items that resonate with you, like books, quotes, affirmations or meaningful symbols.
Step 8. Boundaries
-
Let others know that this is your 'peaceful time' spot and you are not to be disturbed.
-
Remember ~ this is your special time to recharge your battery.
With these steps, you can create a meditation corner that serves as a sanctuary for mindfulness and relaxation.
Remember, the most important aspect is that the space feels right for you, so feel free to modify these suggestions to suit your own personal preferences.

A meditation corner can be a great idea for several reasons ... practical, emotional, and even neurological.
Here’s why people often benefit from having one:
-
It creates a dedicated mental cue for calm.
When you use the same space for meditation, your brain starts to associate that spot with relaxation and focus. Over time, simply sitting there can help you shift into a calmer state more quickly.
-
It reduces friction.
If everything you need - cushion, candle, journal, headphones - is already in one place, you’re more likely to follow through. No setup = fewer excuses.
-
It supports consistency.
A physical routine (same place, same posture) helps establish a mental routine. This strengthens the habit and increases the benefits you get from meditation over time.
-
It provides a retreat inside your own home.
Even in a small or busy household, a little sanctuary can give you a sense of personal space. That can be grounding and stress-relieving.
-
It signals to others that you’re taking a mindful moment.
People around you may be less likely to interrupt if they see you in your designated “quiet spot.”
-
It reinforces self-care.
Having a peaceful area devoted to your well-being can subtly remind you that taking care of yourself is important, not optional.
-
And it can make meditation more enjoyable.
