My therapy approach ...

At Best Self Therapy I offer a heart-centred psychotherapeutic counselling & hypnotherapy service, focusing on emotional awareness and authentic connection, emphasising empathy and understanding.

Integrative therapy is a flexible, personalised approach to mental health.

Instead of using just one therapy method, I mix different tools and strategies to match your personality, your goals, and what actually works for you.

It's usually a blend of:

  • Cognitive & Skills Based Approaches

  • Mind-Body Approaches

  • Trauma-Focused Approaches

  • Insight & Emotional Exploration

  • Deep Relaxation & Subconscious Work

  • Strength-Based Approaches

✨ How Therapy Works ...

Therapy is a safe, private space to talk about what’s going on in your life with someone who listens deeply and supports you without judgment. You don’t need to have everything figured out—or even know where to start.

We simply talk, explore, and get curious together.

In our sessions, we might look at your emotions, patterns, relationships, or the stories you’ve carried for a long time. Sometimes we talk, sometimes we slow down and notice the body, and sometimes we learn tools to support your nervous system or inner world.

There’s no pressure, no performance, and no 'right way' to do therapy.

We go at your pace.

Over time, therapy helps you understand yourself more clearly, feel more grounded, and make choices that align with who you’re becoming. It’s not about fixing you ... it’s about supporting you as you grow into yourself.

You don’t have to do life alone. Therapy gives you a space to breathe, reflect, and be fully yourself.

If you've not had therapy before - here’s what it actually looks like:

1. It’s a conversation ... not an interrogation

You talk about whatever’s going on in your life ... big things, small things, confusing things, painful things, or even “I don’t know what I’m feeling but something’s off.

There’s no script - No pressure to know what to say - No wrong answers.

You show up as you are, and we explore from there.

2. You don’t have to be 'broken' to go to therapy

Therapy isn’t just for crises. It’s for understanding yourself, navigating transitions, building healthier patterns, and figuring out who you’re becoming. It’s support, not a diagnosis of what’s 'wrong.'

3. We go at your pace

You never have to talk about something before you’re ready.

If something feels too big or too vulnerable, we slow down.

If you want to dive deeper, we explore - you’re in control of how the process unfolds.

4. It’s private and judgment-free

Nothing you share is too weird, too messy, or too uncomfortable.

My job isn’t to judge; it’s to understand and support.

Everything you say stays between us.

5. We look at patterns ... not just problems

In therapy, we explore things like:

  • why certain situations trigger you

  • what you’ve learned from your family or past

  • how you talk to yourself

  • what your relationships feel like

  • where you feel stuck

  • what you want your life to look like

It’s less about 'fixing' and more about understanding your inner world.

6. Sometimes we talk. Sometimes we feel. Sometimes we learn tools.

A session might involve:

  • talking through something that happened

  • noticing what’s going on in your body

  • sorting through emotions

  • exploring beliefs or patterns

  • learning grounding or coping skills

  • connecting with your intuition

  • imagining new ways of being

It’s flexible and collaborative.

7. You don’t have to be 'good' at therapy

There’s no perfect way to do this. You don’t need deep insights.

You don’t need to know your whole life story.

You can show up tired, stressed, confused, or completely unsure.

Therapy meets you wherever you are.

8. Over time, you’ll start to feel the shifts

Not huge overnight changes, but subtle ones:

  • feeling clearer

  • reacting differently

  • understanding yourself better

  • feeling less alone

  • making choices that fit who you truly are

  • trusting yourself more

These shifts build on each other.

9. Therapy is a relationship

One of the most healing parts is simply having someone who:

  • listens deeply

  • takes you seriously

  • remembers your story

  • shows up consistently

  • cares that you exist

  • supports your growth

It’s a space where you can be fully you.

10. You don’t have to do life alone

Therapy is a place to talk about the things you might not say anywhere else.

It’s a place to understand what’s going on inside you.

It’s a place to grow into yourself ... at your pace, in your way.

✨ Still on the fence? - some questions to ask yourself ...

Let's have a proper dig into your thought processes here. Grab a pen and paper 1. Understanding Your Reasons > What has been going on in my life that makes me consider therapy now? > What am I struggling with the most right now? > What feels “off,” overwhelming, or stuck? > How long have I been feeling this way? > What do I hope will change? 2. Clarifying Your Goals > What would I like to improve - emotionally, mentally, socially, or physically? > If therapy “worked,” how would my life look or feel different? > Are there habits or patterns I want to break? > Do I want to learn skills, get support, heal past experiences, or all of the above? 3. Exploring Readiness > Am I ready to talk openly about what I’m experiencing? > Am I open to trying new tools or perspectives? > What might get in the way of me engaging in therapy consistently? > What support would help me stay committed? 4. Understanding Your Needs > Do I want in-person sessions, online, or a mix? > Do I want short-term focused therapy or longer-term support? 5. Thinking About Approaches > Am I interested in learning practical skills (CBT/DBT/ACT)? > Do I want to explore my past or relationships (psychodynamic/IFS)? > Am I open to mind–body approaches (somatic, mindfulness, EMDR)? > Would I like something more solution-focused or structured? 6. Safety & Comfort > What would make me feel safe in therapy? > What makes it hard for me to trust others, and what would help? > Are there topics I want to talk about but feel nervous sharing? 7. Practical Questions > What can I realistically commit to in terms of time? > What is my budget? > Would weekly, fortnightly, or monthly sessions work best for me? 8. Self-Reflection > How do I usually cope when things get tough? > What has helped me in the past? > What strengths do I already bring to the process? > What am I hoping to learn about myself?
