Apparently in English, Delyth means pretty and blessed - and I'd actually agree that I am pretty blessed!

Hello, I’m Delyth Cole, (Del) ... a BACP-registered therapist based on The Wirral, offering individual therapy, couples therapy and hypnotherapy in Birkenhead, with options for Walk & Talk Therapy Sessions at some beautiful locations across The Wirral, and online therapy sessions for the whole of the UK and for many other countries.

At Best Self Therapy I offer a warm, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about whatever is going on in your life. My approach to therapy is collaborative and compassionate, and we will work together at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

 

People come to therapy for many different reasons. Some are experiencing anxiety, burnout, relationship difficulties or life transitions. Others may simply feel that something in their life is not quite working and want space to reflect and understand themselves more clearly.

My Background

 

I'm a mum of 4 and a grandma of 2, and have lived with my partner on The Wirral Peninsula for 28 years now.

​

My interest in understanding the mind and human experience led me to study psychology in the 1990's and much later on, after a good few years in the family business - a niche footwear retail & manufacturing brand - I retrained as a therapist. So I've spent many years out in the wider world, gaining a range of practical and professional experiences, and I've lived in both the USA and The Netherlands.

 

Alongside my private practice, I'm a Trustee and volunteer as a counsellor with the Jade L Roberts Project CIC in Liverpool, supporting people experiencing suicidal crisis and mental health difficulties. I have also completed suicide intervention training through LivingWorks ASIST and SafeTALK.

 

This work has deepened my understanding of the importance of compassionate, supportive spaces where people can speak openly about what they are experiencing.

 My Neurodiversity

 

For most of my life, something didn’t quite add up.

 

I had already come to understand that I was dyscalculic in my 30s. That explained part of the picture .. but not all of it. There were still gaps. Still patterns I couldn’t quite name. Still a quiet sense that I was working harder than most people just to keep up with everyday life.

 

It wasn’t until much later that I began to recognise myself in descriptions of inattentive ADHD.

Two words. Decades of lived experience suddenly had a framework.

I haven’t pursued a formal diagnosis. In the UK, the process can feel overwhelming, lengthy, and, at times, discouraging. And alongside that, there’s the growing cultural narrative: “Isn’t everyone a bit ADHD these days?”

 

But here’s the thing … labels are only useful if they bring clarity, not conflict.

 

From my perspective as both a therapist and a human being, self-understanding matters more than external validation.

 

For me the pros of recognising inattentive ADHD (self-identified or otherwise) have been:

Clarity and compassion ... Behaviours I once labelled as “failings” now make sense. That shift alone softens years of self-criticism.  

Pattern recognition ... Lifelong tendencies—distraction, overwhelm, mental drift—are no longer random; they’re part of a consistent cognitive style.  

Permission to adapt ... Instead of forcing myself into systems that don’t work, I can build ones that do.  

Authenticity ... I no longer feel the need to mask as much. There’s a quiet confidence in understanding how my mind works.  

 

What I’ve come to realise is this ... Understanding myself through the lens of inattentive ADHD hasn’t changed who I am … it’s helped me accept who I’ve always been. It’s reframed my story. Not as one of struggle or deficiency, but of difference, adaptation, and resilience.

 

Now, I feel more comfortable in my own skin than I ever have. Not because everything is “fixed,” but because I’m no longer trying to fix what was never broken… just misunderstood.

 

For anyone else navigating this later in life, whether formally diagnosed or not: your experience is valid.

Your understanding of yourself matters.

 

✨ Sometimes, the most powerful shift doesn’t come from a piece of paper.

It comes from finally recognising yourself in your own story.

My Approach to Therapy 

I believe therapy should feel human, respectful and grounded.

 

Rather than trying to “fix” people, therapy can offer a space to explore your experiences, understand patterns in your life and develop greater awareness of your needs.

 

Our work together will be guided by curiosity, compassion and collaboration. There is no expectation to communicate in a particular way, and sessions can move at a pace that feels manageable for you.

 

Some people find it helpful to talk things through, while others may bring notes, pause while reflecting or prefer to think while walking outdoors. Therapy can adapt depending on what feels most supportive.

An Inclusive and Neuro-Affirming Practice

 

People experience and understand the world in different ways. My approach to therapy recognises and respects these differences.

 

For some people this may include experiences of neurodivergence such as autism or ADHD. For others it may simply mean recognising that each person has their own ways of thinking, processing and communicating.

 

A neuro-affirming approach focuses on understanding your experiences and supporting your wellbeing rather than trying to change who you are.

 

My practice welcomes people from many different backgrounds and experiences, and our work together will always be guided by what feels most helpful for you.
