Self Esteem Therapy

BEST SELF THERAPY | WIRRAL

Low Self-Confidence / Self-Esteem

Are these some questions you've been asking yourself lately ...

  1. Why don’t I feel good enough?

  2. Why am I so hard on myself?

  3. Why do I always compare myself to everyone else?

  4. Why do I always doubt myself?

 5.    Why do I care so much what other people think?

When you've become your own toughest critic...

If someone spoke to your best friend the way you speak to yourself, you'd probably have a few words to say about it.

Yet somehow, when it's our own inner voice telling us we're not good enough, clever enough, successful enough or lovable enough, we often believe it.

Low self-esteem doesn't usually shout.

It whispers.

Quietly.

Consistently.

Until, over time, those whispers begin to sound like facts.

If you've spent years doubting yourself, apologising for taking up space, or feeling like everyone else seems to have life figured out, you're not alone.

And more importantly...

You don't have to stay feeling this way.

Whether you're looking for self-esteem therapy on the Wirral or online therapy across the UK, you're very welcome here.

What does low self-esteem actually feel like?

Low self-esteem isn't simply lacking confidence.

You might appear confident at work, raise a family, run a business or be the person everyone relies on—and still secretly wonder if you're "good enough."

Many people tell me they:

  • Constantly compare themselves to other people.

  • Find it difficult to accept compliments.

  • Worry about getting things wrong.

  • Feel like they're never enough, no matter how hard they try.

  • Put everyone else's needs before their own.

  • Apologise... even when they've done nothing wrong.

  • Doubt their decisions.

  • Struggle to believe they deserve kindness, success or happiness.

  • Feel like an imposter waiting to be found out.

  • Are exhausted from trying to be everything for everyone.

You don't have to recognise all of these.

Just one or two can have a huge impact on how you experience life.

---

Where does low self-esteem come from?

People aren't born believing they're not enough.

Those beliefs are usually learnt.

Perhaps you grew up feeling criticised.

Maybe you learnt that being "good" meant pleasing everyone else.

Perhaps you experienced bullying, rejection, loss or relationships where your confidence slowly disappeared.

Or maybe you've simply spent years comparing your behind-the-scenes life with everyone else's highlight reel.

Low self-esteem often develops quietly over time.

The encouraging news is that what has been learnt can also be understood—and gradually changed.

How can therapy help?

One of the biggest misconceptions about self-esteem is that therapy is about learning to "love yourself."

That's quite a big ask if you've spent years struggling to even like yourself.

I think a gentler place to begin is learning to understand yourself.

Therapy gives us the opportunity to explore where those critical beliefs came from, why they've stayed with you, and whether they're actually telling the truth.

Together we'll begin to notice the patterns that keep self-doubt alive and gently develop new ways of relating to yourself.

Many people begin to notice they:

  • Feel less anxious about what others think.

  • Trust themselves more.

  • Become kinder to themselves.

  • Find it easier to set boundaries.

  • Stop apologising for simply existing.

  • Feel more confident making decisions.

  • Begin believing they're worthy of care, kindness and respect.

Self-esteem isn't about becoming arrogant.

It's about finally treating yourself with the same compassion you so freely offer everyone else.

My approach to self-esteem therapy

I'm an integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor, which means I don't believe there's a one-size-fits-all approach.

Together we'll explore your experiences, relationships, beliefs and the story you've come to tell yourself about who you are.

We'll be curious rather than critical.

Compassionate rather than judgemental.

You won't be expected to "think positively" or pretend everything is wonderful.

Instead, we'll work towards something much more realistic.

Helping you see yourself more fairly.

Because you're probably being much harder on yourself than you would ever be on anyone else.

Questions people often ask

  • Can therapy really improve self-esteem?

Yes.

Self-esteem isn't something you're simply born with or without. It develops through our experiences, relationships and the beliefs we hold about ourselves.

Therapy can help you understand those beliefs and begin replacing them with something kinder and more realistic.

  • Why do I always compare myself to everyone else?

Comparison is a very human thing to do.

The trouble is, we're usually comparing our everyday reality with someone else's carefully edited highlights.

Therapy can help you reconnect with your own values instead of measuring yourself against everyone around you.

  • Why do I find it so hard to accept compliments?

Many people with low self-esteem dismiss compliments because they don't fit with how they see themselves.

Together we can explore where that self-image came from and begin gently challenging it.

  • Will therapy make me more confident?

Confidence often grows naturally as self-understanding and self-trust develop.

Rather than trying to become a different person, therapy can help you feel more comfortable being yourself.
